Boss Beauties & The United Nations π
Over the past few months, the Boss Beauties NFT project has been making some massive waves in the public arena. For context, Boss Beauties is a collection founded by Lisa Mayer. She is the CEO of an organization called My Social Canvas, which supports young girls and women to craft a career they love. Boss Beauties NFT was created to support and enable that same initiative. Their most notable partnerships include Target, Verizon, Marvel, and Rolling Stone. Additionally, Boss Beauties has been nationally recognized in the US as the first NFT to ever be displayed at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), and now they are on their way to becoming recognized on an international level.
Yesterday, they announced their new limited-edition 1/1 NFT art collection, called Boss Beauty Role Models, which will be prominently displayed at the United Nations. The Role Model collection features real-life Boss Beauties throughout history, as well as modern Boss Beauties making history in their respective fields today. Modern Beauties will be gifted to these pioneers, and the Historic Beauties will be auctioned off at the United Nations display event. With so many NFT collections to choose from in the space right now, we wanted to highlight this particular blue-chip project in order to honor the women who are making a real impact. This one is more than just a digital collection - it is a global brand that impacts millions of young women worldwide. Congrats Boss Beauties, we are honored by your work!
Bitfinex Hackers Found
Back in 2016, a company by the name of Bitfinex was hacked, and subsequently drained of approximately 120,000 Bitcoin (BTC), at an estimated value of $71 million USD at the time of the transgression. According to a post by the Office of Public Affairs at the Department of Justice, about 25,000 BTC were transferred from the wallet containing the stolen funds throughout the past 5 years. From using fictitious identities on multiple crypto exchanges to depositing money on dark web marketplaces, the thief(s) employed many methods in their effort to liquidate the stolen funds.
On Tuesday, February 2nd, law enforcement officials arrested two individuals in connection with the Bitfinex heist: Ilya Lichtenstein and his wife, Heather Morgan. A court-authorized search warrant was executed by examining the online accounts of the two suspects, where agents found a file that contained the private keys to unlock the wallet containing the stolen funds. This allowed agents to seize and recover about 94,000 BTC, which is valued at more than $4 billion!
The Bitfinex hack was the best trade ever made.
119,000 Bitcoin was stolen in 2017. Value $76m.
Bitfinex repaid the victims the USD equivalent ($76m)over time through a recovery token.
Bitfinex get $3.6bn 5,5 years later.
Borrow $76m, repay it slowly , get $3,6bn. 5,5 years.

The cryptocurrency market is filled with numerous cautionary tales, but the Bitfinex debacle strikes a particular nerve in the minds of crypto investors due to its sheer size, and the audacity of the scam. The ledger of transactions that exist within the crypto space ensures that wallets can be monitored, and more specifically, wallets of bad actors. Along with blacklisting the respective wallets, active monitoring is most likely what enabled special agents to identify Lichtenstein and Morgan as key suspects. Additionally, that monitoring impeded the process of βwashingβ the funds.
