What's Dropping ⚡

  • Land trading NFT strategy game Metroverse will be minting Metro Pods as part of their Blackout Collection. These 3D NFTs come with a variety of uses, from stealing in-game currency $MET, to shielding your own city from attackers. Pods mint on Tuesday, March 22nd at 10PM UTC.

  • Way back in the 90’s there was this beautiful Music player called Winamp - think of it as the Apple Music or Spotify if it’s day. It’s back, Winamp has been resurrected by the metaverse. The original pixelated interface is being auctioned off as an NFT to kickstart the launch of Winamp Foundation, which aims to donate to a number of charities.

  • Ethereum-based game F1 Delta time by Animoca Brands is closing up shop after a three year run. Unknown discrepancies between Animoca and Forumla 1 have lead to the projects early demise. However, Animoca will be airdropping new NFTs to holders, in partnership with REVV Racing on the Polygon Blockchain.

  • LA Mansion dubbed as "Americas largest and most expensive residence" is fitted with it's own NFT gallery. Featuring a number of digital displays, this high-end home solidifies NFTs as a cultural mainstay.

  • Dino Babies in Space has launched a P2E egg game after selling out their Pirates collection. With rumors circulating about the show being picked up by a world-renowned Hollywood movie studio (Paramount Pictures? đź‘€), and the game running smoothly, things are looking up for this ambitious project.

  • INCYMI: Zuck confirms that NFTs are coming to Instagram in a big way.

  • Doodles event at SXSW definitely took the cake with Diplo appearing to perform - see here.

Dr. Disrespect's Gaming Studio 🤝 NFTs

In a space that prides itself on creating communities and benefitting artists/content creators, it comes as no surprise that some of the biggest streamers in Web2 are coming up with ways to integrate their current communities with the Web3 community.

Dr. Disrespect, a video game streamer, has decided that he wants to incorporate NFTs into his new venture: a game called Project Moon. Made in a studio called Midnight Society, the team says that their “approach is going to change the industry.” For now, The NFT will serve as an access pass, though not necessary to play the game. If you are one of the lucky NFT holders, you will be given a “Day Zero” patch, which will “trick” the game into thinking that you started playing from day 1. This utility will most probably allow special perks to “Day Zero” holders and allow them permissions to do things in the game that regular players won’t have.

Other games have tried to do this but to no avail. Some games, like Axie Infinity, even require you to hold an NFT in their collection in order to play the game. In order to reach mass adoption, game developers must think about how they incorporate NFT holders and non-holders in the same playing arena. That can get tricky, but if done right, it will change the mindset that people have towards the relationship between NFTs and in-game content. Dr. Disrespect's frustration with the entire gaming industry as a whole is what led him to create his own gaming studio in an effort to create the best of the best. Knowing his determination, speed, and momentum in everything he does our guess is he will get it done in an excellent fashion. WAGMI.

BAYC has officially announced the release of $ApeCoin adding yet another dimension of utility to their robust ecosystem. The currency will be available across crypto exchanges and offers people who don’t own a BAYC NFT the ability to receive exposure to the value being generated in its ecosystem.

The circulation of ApeCoin marks a significant moment in the history of NFTs because it will be one of the first large-scale experiments in decentralized governance through an NFT project. As the BAYC community continues to expand its reach, developing culture, taking on new initiatives, it can store all of the value of the work that it does in its own unique currency rather than depending on someone else’s. The release of the ApeCoin is a power move if BAYC plans to get into gaming and virtual land development hereafter. Despite the bright future that BAYC still has ahead of it, currencies are notorious for functioning erratically.
