Nike Acquires RTFKT

What's Dropping ⚡️

  • RTFKT, which sold to Nike for an undisclosed amount, had a bit of drama post news of the sale on Monday. Twitter user Sarah1of1 has since deleted several tweets which clearly showed she had some idea of what was about to happen.

  • OpenSea had a record sales day of $157m USD with the news of Nike buying RTFKT.

  • Nuclear Nerds sold out their entire run of 8,999 yesterday. Secondary sales have been solid and the floor is current .09

  • Bored Ape Yacht Club announced a partnership to develop a P2E game. Holders are still waiting for the mobile game that was rugged by Apple 10 days ago

  • Stack that ETH kids, the BYOPills land sale starts Thursday. Make sure you have your Pill and Vape ready.

Nike Chooses RTFKT

The battle of metaverse dominance has had a roaring start. Just a couple of weeks ago we saw Adidas announce their partnerships with the Bored Ape Yacht Club, Punks Comic, and the incredibly talented artist Gmoney.eth. Now, Nike dropped the huge news that it has acquired RTFKT which is a virtual sneaker and collectibles NFT.

Here are Nike's statements on the matter: “This acquisition is another step that accelerates Nike’s digital transformation and allows us to serve athletes and creators at the intersection of sport, creativity, gaming and culture,” says John Donahoe, President and CEO of NIKE, Inc. “We’re acquiring a very talented team of creators with an authentic and connected brand. Our plan is to invest in the RTFKT brand, serve and grow their innovative and creative community and extend Nike’s digital footprint and capabilities.”  

Just recently RTFKT Studios also released their Clone X project which is simply stunning art as you can see below.

These two brands have been battling in real life for decades in brand dominance and now the games have just begun in the metaverse. Who will come out on top? Nobody knows but a lot of money is on the first mover - Adidas.

Stack's Moonray

A few weeks ago, The Drop covered an NFT project on Stacks ($STX), a token that connects to Bitcoin to enable smart contracts. Since the Bitcoin blockchain doesn't natively enable smart contracts in the way Ethereum does, Stacks was created to be the bridge, enabling applications to be built and confirmed through Bitcoin.

Now Stacks is releasing their first RPG metaverse game called Moonray. Moonray is a surreal, 3rd-person, action RPG coming in 2022... it's basically Halo on the blockchain. This will be powered through Steam, which is an online game store we were pretty certain banned blockchain-based games a few weeks ago... but apparently, they've changed their mind.

Nonetheless, Stacks is quickly establishing themselves in this space and beginning to heat up the competition with blockchains such as Solana and Avalanche. Those in the NFT space would be keen to keep an eye on Stacks NFT collections, such as Bitcoin Birds, which The Drop mentioned a few weeks ago. At the time, the birds were listed at a floor price of approximately 1,000 STX. The floor has doubled since that article was released.
