Tai Lopez Doing What He Does Best: Grifting

When it comes to Web3, most individuals sit in suspense, waiting for their favorite Web2 brand or influencer to come out with their own project/collab in the NFT space. But, along with brand/influencer emersion into NFTs, there will always be a group of bad actors, con artists, scammers, or simply "grifters", as we call them. One of those characters goes by the name of Tai Lopez and for many, this is a very familiar name on the internet.

You may remember him as the guy you see in the ads before you start watching a Youtube video, talking about his book collection while showing off his Lamborghini in the garage, or in front of his pool at his mansion that he owns (rents). He is the pinnacle when it comes to creating a fake persona for financial benefit. Tai calls himself a “professional internet marketer”, according to a disclaimer underneath all his emails. He runs a self-improvement firm that provides a variety of techniques to enhance your life, with the eventual goal of making money from what you acquire. He boasts about a lavish lifestyle, filled with cars and expensive houses, to entice new investors to buy into his improvement program. His egotism and marketing prowess allowed him to create a persona that depicts a successful individual, with all the tools for success. But, as time went on, numerous allegations came out saying that Tai’s lifestyle was rented, and those rumors ended up being true.

First, it was a life improvement/financial freedom course. Then, it was a real estate course. Now, Tai has chosen his next market to exploit: NFTs. The Tai Lopez’s Original Garage (OG) Social Club was released for WL members on Friday, March 4th. This collection is broken down into 3 tiers that go up in pricing, each with its own benefits. According to Tai’s NFT website, “Black Cards get you 1-1 access to Tai Lopez, Gold Cards get you access to his close friends and business partners mastermind, and Silver Cards get you access to his mentoring, training, and members-only hotel and club.” People are already wondering how Tai will deliver on the utility that he is promising because there are already too many investors to manage. Let’s see if Tai can weasel himself out of this one. He might’ve gotten out of Web2 unscathed, but the Web3 world is ruthless. If you don’t deliver, you’re shunned. That is your one and final warning, Tai. Deliver on your promises or leave this space, for good. WAGMI.

The "utility" of this project is almost comical.

Dented Feels Makes Its Move

The drama of Dentinmyhead and Weather Report unfolds across the secondary marketplace. Dentin parted ways with Weather Report after they offered him a less than reasonable 5% equity stake in the project that he illustrated. The public largely sided with Dentin and flocked over to support his solo project. Dented Feels is now trading at .25 ETH while Weather Report is sitting below .1 ETH.

Part of what makes Web3 so attractive is its promise of WAGMI. Unlike its predecessors, it wants to reward all users that contribute to its system. The conflict between Weather Report and Dentin shows us that WAGMI is a value that has to be actively upheld by its users regardless of how the underlying blockchain technology might be designed for that end. If everybody is going to make it, everybody needs to be paid.
