What's Dropping ⚡️

  • TechCrunch highlighted StepN - the move-to-earn protocol built on Solana. They’re only 5 months old, the protocol generates $3-$5M in daily trading fees from its 2-3 million monthly active users. (TechCrunch)

  • Balenciaga has started accepting BTC and ETH for payment.

  • Singer of the viral hit "Crypto Boy" has just minted editions of the song on Sound.xyz after her performance at VeeCon. Holders have the chance to comment on the song at a certain timestamp. A random time will be chosen and whoever selected it will win a special NFT.

  • Gamestops' new wallet is a bit buggy but is working alright. Some are hoping for some kind of reward or token for being early. We'd recommend downloading the wallet but not funding it quite yet - let's get these kinks worked out first.

  • Even more celebrities and athletes are signing onto web 3 with their own NFT collections. The market in this regard is starting to feel a bit over-saturated and crowded. The newest to announce a project is Hall of Famer Magic Johnson with his collection of 1,600 NFT packs.

  • Milady NFT prices crash as creator doxxes themselves. It turns out they may have been behind a past controversial Twitter account and project. We won't get into details here because it is quite appalling. Read here (WARNING: disturbing).

  • You know a project is influential when they make waves in the market. We've spoken about Goblins NFT, but not about the hundreds of derivates minting daily. Is this good or bad for the current market?

  • Legendary musician and drummer of the Beatles Ringo Starr becomes the first of his bandmates to enter the metaverse! He is launching an online auction next month called Ringo Starr NFT Collection — The Creative Mind of a Beatle.

  • Some hotel companies are looking into converting reservations into NFTs. This concept begins to make a lot of sense when you consider cancellations. Guests could easily transfer the token to a new patron upon cancellation, saving time for guests and staff.

  • Allied Esports are esports specialists that are pulling competitive gaming into web 3. With several successful projects, a new one just announced, and a strong community to back them, the company is well on its way into the metaverse.

Seth Green BAYC Show Canceled After Hack 😔

Throughout our time reporting on the NFT space, we have identified many scams that have transpired, and the devastating damage these scams cause to the community as a whole. About a week ago, Seth Green tweeted stating his Bored Ape was looted in a phishing scam. Along with his BAYC, he also lost 2 MAYC and a Doodle. Even then, he may have lost more than just that.

At the time his NFTs were stolen, Seth was working on a TV show that featured his prized digital assets. As further evidence of the proposed project, this past week, Seth premiered a trailer of the show for attendees of VeeCon.

BAYC #8398 was bought for 106.5 ETH by an individual that goes by the name “DarkWing84” right after it was stolen. Since then, it has been transferred to a vault. This is the genesis of the issue. Seth needs his BAYC, most importantly, because “he” is the star of his show (Ape’s name is Fred Simian). And without ownership of the Ape in question, it begs the question: can Seth still use the Ape in his show? Seth has reached out to the new owner, but to no avail. Most likely, a property lawyer would tell him something along the lines of, “You don’t own it, subsequently you don’t have the rights associated with using it in a commercial sense.” Others will suggest, “You were scammed while you were already making the show. So continue.” What do you think?

VeeCon Was A Massive Success 🔥

From May 19th to May 22nd Gary Vee and his team hosted an exceptionally well-organized NFT-based conference in Minneapolis. One of Gary Vee’s explicitly stated goals is to help coordinate holders of his tokens with the emerging talents of the space. Attendees interacted with the likes of FEWOCiOUS, Beeple, and DeeZe. Having previously attended many major conferences himself, he executed his dream of an accessible conference for the community and produced an amazing VeeCon that has garnered widespread critical acclaim.

Notably, the success of the event and Gary Vee’s demonstration of executing well on his word has propelled the VeeCon Tickets NFT from a ~.2 ETH floor price to a .41 ETH floor price. And it is resting at .41 ETH a few days after the event, which suggests that the rise in value is not merely a pump. New standard values are attributed to collections when people have a solid basis for evaluating a project’s worth. The insider perspective of the conference suggests that the NFT world is staying busy building despite the bearish market.
