NFT Trademarks Keep Flowing In šŸ‘€

Despite market conditions remaining negative, people havenā€™t stopped building. According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, over 4,708 trademarks have been filed in the Web3 division within the past year. Compared to 3,547 trademarks filed in 2021, the number of companies and ideas coming to fruition is growing, organically of course. But when analyzing the NFT figures, the numbers are even more astronomical.

In the NFT-specific category, there have been a total of 6,855 trademarks filed in 2022, along with 4,997 trademarks filed in the metaverse division. While some of these trademarks overlap, the numbers are significant when compared to the 2021 figures, which saw 2,142 in the NFT category, and 1,890 in the metaverse category. Some may say that NFTs only morphed into something big towards the end of 2021, but the trademarks have been getting filed at a pretty consistent rate, month-by-month. While March 2022 was the highest filing month, trademarks continue to be filed, with October claiming around 440 trademarks alone.

META Begins Layoffs šŸ˜¬

Meta has seen 80 billion dollars worth of its market value wiped out in just the last month alone. There isnā€™t any prevailing concern within NFT Twitter regarding Meta, necessarily besides Instagram providing a new platform for NFT distribution. Aside from the more concrete protocol, Metaā€™s approach to web3 rests on a speculative bet that they can structure the most compelling and standard virtual reality experience for people to flock to. But the numbers donā€™t add up and Metaā€™s pipedream to monopolize virtual existence is antithetical to decentralization.

While we will be sure to hear many headlines surrounding Meta and the tech sector's layoffs, it is important to remember that Metaā€™s weakness doesnā€™t reflect the greater web3 ecosystemā€™s health. They are in this position because they were trying to prematurely design what can only be built from the ground up by the people. They never garnered that much attention or dedication, and now theyā€™re simply paying the price. On the other hand, projects in web3 are continuing to flesh out their visions alongside the communities that fund and help see them into existence.

Asics Run Into NFTs šŸ‘Ÿ

During the four-day Solana Breakpoint conference at Lisbon ASICS, the popular sports shoe brand from Japan introduced a custom running show in two forms, both in Solana colours for the global Solana community. This ASICS x Solana UI launch features custom-made GT-2000 11 running shoes which will see customers receive a loyal ASICS Badge NFT during the purchase. This Badge gives them the eligibility to receive an airdrop of a limited number of ASICS x STEPN GT-2000 NFTs. A total of 1,001 NFTs will be airdropped with just 150 uncommon and 850 commons.

The shoes are exclusively available to purchase with USDC, and a pair is selling for $200 USDC, courtesy of Solana Pay whose impact on commerce can be described as seismic. Solana Pay is a decentralized payment protocol built on the Solana network. This method of payment will let a consumer easily send digital dollar currencies directly from their wallet, and ASICS receives the funds immediately, with costs measured in fractions of a penny. This is one of the reasons why ASICS chose to launch on Solana.

Note: The shoes were available for pre-order globally until today November 9 at 6:59 AM UTC more details here.
