The Simpsons NFT Episode Goes Viral 📺

One of the greatest (if not the greatest) running animated TV shows in history The Simpsons dove head first into web3 lore in their annual Treehouse Horror Halloween Special. This isn’t the first time NFTs have been mentioned in the show btw.

In Treehouse of Horror 34 the show made countless references to the space as a whole and in particular on-chain NFTs.

💡 Here’s what happened:

  • The Simpson’s Art Museum in Springfield is closed forever and the colections are converted into NFTs on the blockchain

  • Homer and Bart sneak in to try to change their personal art into NFTs, Bart thinks its a good idea to step into the “E-Z Funge Art Digitizer” no knowing that he himself would be digitized into an NFT

  • Homer and Marge go on quest into the blockchain to try to save Bart

  • Marge is teleported onto the “Block Train” which comprises of different levels of NFTs she has to fight her way through (the levels are varied by price)

  • At the front of the train she finds Bart amongst the most valuable colections - featured are NBA Top Shot, XCOPYART, Pak, @PRguitarman ‘s NyanCat, BAYC as servers

  • In the end Marge saves Bart and the Block Train is halted due to the fallout of FOMO

Make no mistake, like all of Simpsons content this episode was meant to poke fun at the space - but it was great to see the community take it in good stride and laugh along. Plus, there seems to be no such thing as bad publicity in this space.

  • The NBA basketball Spurs superstar in the making Victor Wembanyama had an NFT trading card of himself sold for over $110,000 Thursday, apparently topping the record sale for one of his physical trading cards (DC)

  • ApeFest was largely another success, besides the stage lighting that apparently caused some individuals to have to go to the hospital. (CT)

  • Elon Musk on Joe Rogan’s podcast had some choice words for NFTs that aren’t onchain. He states, “The NFT is not even on the blockchain it’s just a URL to the JPEG. You should at least encode the JPEG in the blockchain”. Watch clip here.

  • A Yuga Labs employee stepped down last week after numerous racist tweets came to light (dating from 2018-2020) sparking outcry. See apology here.

  • OpenSea cuts staff by 50% in preparation for OpenSea 2.0. (FT)

  • Adidas and Bugatti have collaborated to create a limited edition collection of football boots called the adidas X Crazyfast Bugatti. Only 99 pairs will be available through an auction on the adidas Collect Web3 platform from November 8 to 11. (JD)

  • Pak, after a long hiatus, tweeted out an ominous gif that alludes to another collection. Needless to say, the community was NOT happy since many feel like his prior collections (that minted for dozens of millions) were essentially long term rug pulls.
