TikTok NFT Drop?

Two months ago, TikTok-- a video sharing app-- banned all cryptocurrency content from their platform. Creators were also restricted from posting any finance-related content without proper disclosures to their audience. This ban caused an uproar amongst creators whose primary audience is located on TikTok. The lines between acceptable content and content that would ban a creator from the platform were blurred. For weeks, creators had every video put under review if it mentioned words like crypto, money, finance, or stocks.

Then suddenly TikTok posts a title: “TikTok launches first creator-led NFT collection.” This article outlines an NFT collection called “TikTok Top Moments” designed by six of TikTok’s largest, and most influential creators. REWIND. After much research, it appears as though there has also been a removal of the policy which banned cryptocurrency and financial content from their platform just two months ago! This is good news for finance creators who have been walking on eggshells for weeks, just waiting to get banned from the platform.

All drama aside, the NFTs will be made available on the Immutable X NFT marketplace for purchase with Ethereum. Immutable X is the first gas fee, carbon-neutral Layer-2 scaling solution for Ethereum. There will be a series of weekly drops, starting Oct. 6th through the end of the month. As mentioned, six of the biggest TikTok creators have collaborated with NFT creators... Here is the lineup!

NFT Verification is....verified

Issue #I of The Drop detailed a rumor going around regarding Twitter's NFT authentication feature for users. To catch you up to speed if you missed it, the rumor had no substance to it. Supposedly there was an undocumented Q&A session with an "unnamed spokesperson" from Twitter who said, "NFT authentication will come in the form of a badge, shown on profile pictures, marking the owner's NFT as authentic." As writers who value good information (and citing our sources), we spoke up about the vague nature of this viral comment. It had no substance, no proof... until early Wednesday afternoon!

Justin Taylor, Head of Consumer Product Marketing at Twitter, posted THIS video sneak peak! As you can see in the photo below, the video tutorial shows there will be a verified badge on the users' profile picture. Also note the new "collectible" tab, which users will be able to connect their wallets to display collectibles directly on Twitter!

The video came from Mada Aflak, an Android Tech Lead at Twitter. She has recently been tweeting out some great questions to help improve this feature before the launch. One question she tweeted out yesterday was, “What are the existing solutions to prevent anyone from creating copies and authenticating fake NFTs?” In other words, how do we prevent someone from screenshotting and minting a Bored Ape simply to “verify” it on Twitter? There are many kinks like this to be worked out before the feature is released, but I’d like to add one more question: “Is it a coincidence that this tweet demo came out less than two days after Issue #I of The Drop?” Possibly... but maybe Aflak is reading! 😉
