What's Dropping ⚡️

  • Coinbase dropped their beta platform this morning and everyone is buzzing.

  • United Talent Agency (UTA) has signed and partnered with massive project Deadfellaz for representation in many different media outlets. They just tweeted yesterday about their plans for brand partnerships, merchandising, gaming, and more.

  • Hyundai drops insane video featuring Meta Kongz NFTs. The video features a Kong flying through the metaverse on a classic Pony hatchback. The video ends mysteriously with the words "Shooting star NFT, dropping soon." shown on screen.

  • Tony Hawk is coasting his way into the metaverse with a collection of physical Skateboards with accompanying NFTs. The auctions will be for signed boards with 3D scanned replicas as the digital collectible, and represent some of the most iconic tricks ever performed

  • Rumors are swirling about Yuga Lab's upcoming land sale, some are saying that sales will start on 4/20, most think it will be priced in $APE, while others have claimed that Coinbase NFT marketplace will go live on this date.

  • Moonbirds fly hot out of the gate with over 200M in sales during their debut. Some are celebrating, some are coping; one thing is for sure, this project and its influence on future projects are already evident. Moonbirds is one of the quickest selling and most successful projects to date.

  • WNBA team New York Liberty will be the first team in the league to launch an NFT. The digital art consists of high fidelity 3D nail art and is dropping during the Liberty's season-opening game on May 7.

  • Gaming giant Blizzard seemingly does not want their name next to the word "NFT", though they did put out a public survey regarding the subject.  After they sent out a survey asking users about the integration of blockchain technologies and received a largely negative vote, head of Blizzard Mike Ybarra quickly tweeted about the subject, saying "No one is doing NFTs,".

Azuki's BEANZ 🌱

For over two weeks now, we’ve witnessed Azuki’s latest airdrop transform in front of us. It went from a wooden crate with a parachute descending perpetually from the sky, to an animation of a little bean emerging from a bean pod - formally known as BEANZ. Now we have far more information on the type of utility that Azuki wishes for the BEANZ to perform in their ecosystem. In the images below, you’ll see BEANZ creatively layered on top of the base Azuki surface. This is a prime example of the type of creative moves Azuki is encouraging their holders to make with their PFPs. The idea here is to individualize your Azuki with an accessory that adds more character and vitality to the already pleasing primary artwork. The BEANZ adds another layer of individuality depending on which type you obtain. There are versions that pee, and for the ones that paint graffiti, holders can use them to write a message on the skin of their Azuki.

While some have gone to Twitter to make fun of and critique the BEANZ project - suggesting that they are disappointing and uninteresting - none of these positions are giving credence to the fact that Azuki has incorporated something incredibly "memeable" and "brandable" into their ecosystem. Whether it be collaborations with different projects, or even holders wishing to take artistic privileges in accessorizing their other non-Azuki PFPs with this Azuki stamp, Azuki is ensuring that their IP can be represented everywhere. The Drop has previously written about the significance of memeability, and how that quality has catapulted projects into the limelight. In this case, Azuki has made a brilliant move by complementing their existent momentum with little loveable characters that we’re going to see everywhere, and will ultimately carry forth the project even further.

 BEWARE OF SCAMMERS! 🚨

The NFT space features numerous platforms that individuals are able to utilize in order to stay up to stay current with the news. From being active in the Discord to enabling Twitter alerts for certain projects, holders are ready to act on any news that they come across. But sometimes with this rapid analysis of information, people don’t realize that they’re actually getting scammed.

Over the course of many months, we have seen the NFT space become bombarded and flooded with messages from “verified” accounts on Twitter. Oftentimes, these devious accounts will claim there’s a raffle or a “special” stealth mint that is only being given out to certain users. And especially after the Moonbirds mint, the messages and tags have only increased in intensity.

  If you’ve been in this space long enough, you have either learned not to click any links or reply to any messages the hard way or because someone has informed you of the potential scam. Too many people have fallen victim to phishing scams, because they become excited, or fear they will experience instant FOMO. So, take this as a public service announcement: Do not click on any links. Do not reply to any messages. If anyone even tries to mention the words “seed phrase”, report the account and block it. Only click on links that come from the official account of a project. Too many people have already been scammed, and we want to try and reduce this scourge. Stay safe. WAGMI.
