Pudgy Penguins Raises $9 Million 🐧

Remember Pudgy Penguins?

yep, the project that boomed during the 2021 bull run, crashed into chaos, and then recently came back to life.

🚀 Huge news: They just raised $9 million in their recent seed round

How did this happen? (a timeline):

  • April 2022, Luca Netz purchased Pudgy Penguins IP after drama from the founders for $2.5 million

  • Pudgy Penguins launched physical toy projects and other merchandise in an attempt to right the downing ship.

  • The team goes on to build an advisory board with leaders from Meta and Hasbro

  • Pudgy Penguins signs with WME agency after $250M total volume

In Net’s own words:

I look at the Pudgy Penguin like an influencer,” Netz said. “This character is transcendent in its ability to get where we want it to be.

Artist Spotlight 🎨 Charles Pate

Charles Pate, Jr. is an award-winning artist who was tasked by the team at BPX Collective with creating a collection of pixelated miners to commemorate the final collection mined during the Proof-of-Work era.

The collection, Lost Miners of the Ether, is a historical moment in cryptography and consists of a diverse study of traditional miners. As the collection progresses, the miners become more eclectic before morphing into almost mythical creatures.

Pate approached the work as an heirloom, a piece that will accumulate interest and value over the coming years. He wanted the collection to have depth, color, and energy, as well as as much emotion and depth as a fine oil painting. Not only that, but he also wanted the collection to relate back to nostalgia with technology overlapping with art, specifically video games of the ’80s and ’90s.

Once minted, the holders of the project received a claim pass and were able to participate by influencing the development of the art. Charles’ affable nature, along with a healthy dose of patience and professionalism, kept the project on track.

The Lost Miners collection is a unique moment in history that Charles along with the BPX team and community were able to capture. The collection is not only an engineering feat but also a testament to Charles' artistic talent and his ability to create something that is both visually appealing and historically significant.

The Lost Miners need no external dependencies, they will stand the test of time.

They simply exist.
