Sotheby's Launches On-Chain Secondary NFT Marketplace 🚀

Sotheby's Metaverse, the Web3 arm of the art auction house, is launching a peer-to-peer secondary marketplace for NFT art transactions. The platform will operate fully on-chain via Ethereum and Polygon networks, and users can pay in ETH or MATIC. Artist royalties will continue to be honored through smart contracts on the resale platform.

💡 Some Sotheby stats:

  • First started NFT wing in April 2021

  • $120 million in total NFT sales

  • Huge NFT sales such as “Covid Alien” CryptoPunk which sold for $11.7 million

"The opportunity to expand Sotheby’s Metaverse with a fully on-chain peer-to-peer market is an important step forward in our evolution within the digital art and collectible space,"
