Bored & Dangerous Novel Drop 📚

Web3 just published its first novel, Bored & Dangerous: As Told to Neil Strauss by Jenkins the Valet, and its protagonists are none other than the distinguished members of the Bored Ape Yacht Club. Jenkins the Valet and the Writer’s Room co-wrote the novel with NYT bestselling author Neil Strauss. Bored & Dangerous went live yesterday and is available to exclusive cohorts for minting. It is available to all on secondary markets.

The novel draws on the collective efforts of over 3,000 writers and uses the graphics of 4,075 unique apes. In true Web3 spirit, 50% of net profits will cycle back to the holders that licensed their apes. Holders of the title have the option of burning Bored & Dangerous, if they choose to do this they’ll have the ability to mint Azur Root, an access token to the world of Azurbala. The book can also be staked for governance tokens in a DAO. This latest delivery from the Bored Ape ecosystem speaks to the potential that NFT communities have when users have rights over the art.

Immortal Player Characters Are Back 📈

It’s not every day that an NFT from 2018 gets unearthed. But, that’s precisely what occurred with ImmortalPlayerCharacter (IPC). What started off as an RPG DNA character generation project has now turned into a full-scale NFT project with endless opportunities.

Created by world-renowned game developer Ed Annuziata, IPC was first released as a run-of-the-mill playing card. You would buy a “Paper Wallet” with the private key to the Ethereum wallet holding that particular IPC, thus giving you access to the ERC721 token associated with said character. This innovative “minting” method allowed users to dictate supply because the amount minted coincided with the number of cards bought, while also giving users a physical artifact of their digital token. In total, 2,604 IPCs were generated on-chain back in 2018, and the current collection total is 12,000 pieces.

With IPC, the vision was to be able to use your character in a multitude of game universes and realities. According to the website, this is because “IPCs have all the data required for the procedural generation of full-3D characters for videogames and virtual worlds.” They hold data such as race, gender, and height, while also having attributes like strength, dexterity, and luck. They are actual characters with their own distinct parameters that can be plugged in to a game engine with ease.

Annuziata is a legend when it comes to game design. In his tenor in the development world, he has worked on games like Spiderman, Mr. Bones, and Dungeons and Dragons. But his biggest accomplishment was the creation of Ecco the Dolphin, which became one of the most popular Sega games due to its difficulty. The thought process that Annuziata puts into his game design allows for lore and building, and that’s what makes people bullish about IPC. It’s Annuziata’s world that he has been building since 2018. What does he have in store for us? What are we going to see from IPC now that they’ve come to center stage? We’ll have to wait and see. WAGMI.
